Talking at the UK UPA 'World usability day' event

by Martin Belam, 2 November 2010

Short notice I know, but I'm very pleased to be able to say that I'll be talking at the UK UPA event next week to mark World Usability day. It takes place on Thursday 11th November at 6:30 at The Cumberland Hotel, and this year's theme is about 'Communication'.

I've given the following synopsis of my talk, which will be about 20 minutes plus Q&A:

"Nearly two decades of the world wide web has revolutionised the way that traditional media companies communicate with their audience. In this talk, Martin Belam looks at several ways that Guardian News & Media have dealt with this transformation, whether it is instigating conversations with readers, introducing the concept of 'mutualised' journalism, or improving machine-to-machine communication with the use of Linked Data."

I'm one of three speakers, and the other name to be announced so far is Giulia Piu talking about Buddy Bounce. Tickets for the event are £10 on the door for non-members, £5 for student non-members, and free for members. Register here.

I've got a couple of other speaking engagements in London coming up. I'll be at Online Information 2010 on November 30th, hosting a session and co-presenting "Mapping the Guardian's tags to the web of data" with Peter Martin, The Guardian's tags manager. Early bird discount booking for the conference ends this Friday. I'll also be talking about linked data at news:rewired III on December 16th, and you can book your place for that event here.
