Privacy and usage of cookies

I do not set out to collect personal information from visitors to currybetdotnet. However, the site does use some software and third party services which have some privacy implications, and I wanted to set those out clearly for users. This site does not use advertising cookies. By visiting this site in a browser that does not have cookies disabled, you are assumed to have agreed to the use of anonymous analytics cookies, and cookies that may be set and read by Facebook, Twitter, ShareThis and Google.

Movable Type

When you leave a comment on the site, the Movable Type software powering this blog captures your IP address. If you have submitted an email address with your comment it may be personally identifiable. Your email address will not be published on the site, although I may use it to contact you directly about your comment. Website URLs, if you submit one, may be published on the site. If you ask the site to “Remember your details for next time?” when leaving a comment, it will set a cookie.

Google Analytics

I use Google Analytics to measure the usage of currybetdotnet. This does not provide me with personally identifiable data, but I can see which links people have followed to reach the site, which technical platforms they are using, which search terms they used, and where visitors came from geographically. This data is collected using an anonymous traffic tracking cookie from Google. You can read Google’s privacy policy

Sharing tools

Individual article pages feature sharing tools provided by Twitter, Facebook, Google and ShareThis. These elements are provided by the respective companies, who collect data about their usage. Their privacy policies can be found at the following links:

Google Feedburner

The RSS feed for currybetdotnet is optimised using a service called FeedBurner. This allows me to see how many people are subscribed to my RSS feeds, using which readers, and which items are clicked upon. Again, the information is not personally identifiable.

FeedBurner also provide the subscribe by email option available on currybetdotnet. I am able to see the email addresses of users who are subscribed to that service. Feedburner were acquired by Google, and are now covered by their privacy policy.
